SoftwareNDT Calculator – Calculator for the exposure time for radiographic testing
The SoftwareNDT Calculator program calculates the exposure times for radiographic testing with the isotope selenium75, iridium192 and cobalt 60.
Exposure times in radiographic testing are crucial for the detection of material defects such as pores, lack of fusion and cracks. The exposure time depends on several factors, including the intensity of the radiation, the wavelength of the rays, the thickness of the component to be tested and the density of the X-ray film.
The film density during radiographic testing is the factor used to assess the quality of the base material and the weld seam. Differences in film density can indicate material defects, changes in material thickness or irregularities in the weld seam.
The SoftwareNDT Calculator program calculates the film density in the base material and in the weld seam.
To achieve the best results, an exposure diagram is used that shows the relationship between wall thickness, activity, film and foil type and the distance between the film and the radiation source.
An exposure diagram shows the wall thickness in millimeters and the activity in “Ci × min”. There are exposure diagrams for X-ray tubes or radiation sources such as Cobalt 60, Iridium 192 or Selenium 75.
